The 34-Hour Basic Mediation Training provides
in-depth coverage of the mediation process and the principles
of conflict management through presentations, exercises, discussions,
and role-plays. The training complies with the Supreme Judicial
Court (SJC) Uniform Rules on Dispute Resolution and meets the
requirements for confidentiality as stated in the Mass General
Laws, Chapter 233, section 23C. Those who have completed the
basic mediation training can apply to the NSCM 25-Hour Apprentice
Program and continue their training/evaluation by mediating
with mentor mediators.
Peer
Mediation is a voluntary process during which student
mediators assist
other
students involved in conflict to resolve disputes. The 20-hour
training (16 hour for middle school students) includes conflict
theory, the stages of mediation and practice role-plays. Schools
that develop a Peer Mediation Program can become members of
the Peer Mediation Collaborative of the North Shore. The Peer
Mediation Collaborative Coordinator acts as a resource for school
programs and organizes and invites all North Shore peer mediators
to a yearly Peer Mediator’s Forum. Learn
more about Peer Mediation.
Other
training services offered by NSCM include workshops,
seminars, and speakers to organizations, schools, police, social
service agencies, civic and professional organizations and businesses
meetings.
The
Parent/Child Mediation Training offered by NSCM provides
mediators with
a
better understanding of family dynamics, adolescent development
and cultural diversity. Through role-plays, speakers and activities,
mediators gain the confidence needed to work with families experiencing
difficulties in communication. Participants in this training
learn the transformative mediations skills that allow them to
assist family members to recognize and communicate with each
other in a different way.
