NSCMC offers a voluntary, informal, and confidential process of conflict resolution for parents and children, ages 11 through 18. The mediation process provides an opportunity for youths and their parents to work toward their own cooperative solutions with the aid of a neutral third party.
Our specially trained and experienced mediators help families talk through many difficult issues including:
- Running away from home
- School attendance and performance
- Friends and social activities
- Independence and privacy
Parent/Child Mediation cases are sometimes referred by the Juvenile Court Probation Department after a Child in Need of Services (CHINS) petition has been filed. Families may call the NSCMC office directly prior to court involvement to seek mediation services.
Results: Mediation often results in a written agreement, affirming the accomplishments and commitments the participants have achieved. However, with or without a written document, the process can substantially improve relationships by opening new communication
